In March, Tanya and I attended some wonderful new workshops on Native Garden Design and Rain Garden Design provided by Brisbane City Council at the Botanic Gardens Mount Coot-Tha.
The Native Garden Design Workshop covered site assessment, soil testing, soil improvement and correct plant selection. The benefits of selecting local native plants were reinforced including supporting local wildlife and for climate adaptability.
The Rain Garden Design Workshop introduced new design ideas to creatively use stormwater in a sustainable way at home. It included how to assess a site and plan for and install a rain garden for food and ornamental purposes. Brisbane City Council runs excellent free workshops and these cover a large range of interests. Events can be booked through Eventbrite.
We came away ready to implement many unique, site specific, yet sustainable new ideas into our garden design work!
