POWERFUL OWL

The Powerful Owl is a remarkable and important part of Eastern Australia’s ecosystem. With a wingspan of up to 1.4 meters, its ability for silent flight allows it to hunt effectively.

PROJECT AIMS

This collaborative volunteer-based conservation project involves well-informed and strategic research actions carried out in an ethical way following strict guidelines that are aimed towards the conservation and protection of the Powerful Owl.

HOW

Field observations, surveys, data collection and recordings are regularly carried out mainly during the stages of their breeding season. A number of technologies and strategies are used to study the specie's interactions and habitat requirements which are essential for their protection and to support and celebrate their successful proliferation.

POWERFUL OWLS NEED YOU !

Please consider volunteering for Birdlife Australia's Powerful Owl Project at this link

You can join today and receive training to become a volunteer studying and ethically monitoring Powerful Owls in their territorial habitats. With this data, the Project can monitor Powerful Owl breeding in south-eastern Queensland and identify how to best conserve them.

Volunteers are also involved in advocacy, engaging the greater community in urban conservation and ways to minimise urban threats, such as habitat loss. Members of the community can also volunteer for nature conservation programs including Bushcare through the Brisbane City Council Habitat Brisbane Program in their local area. All members of the community can stop using and advocate against the use of rat poisons which kill the Powerful Owl and other native animals. Read more here at this link
